To Bone And Back

On June 26 we participated in the To Bone and Back 40 mile relay. Angela started for our team. Our team photographer got out to catch the end of her leg. She looks to be doing well after dropping an intestinal load that was bothering her. She did great for not doing too much on the preparation side of training. We don't have pics of our 2nd and 3rd runners, but they did a great job.
This our 4th runner coming in to Bone to hand off
to Oliver. The teams had spread out by this point
that we didn't have to deal with as much of the
congestion that occurred here, being the half-way
point.

Oliver took off on a good pace with a long downward slope ahead of him.

He's getting close to his uphill climb and doing well

despite the increasing heat of the day.

Liz came to the rescue at about three-quarter through Olivers leg. She came out with Teagan and sported some water guns.

I started to some warm ups and got some great
insight from Jean; Run Fast.

Oliver made some good time during his leg and
finished strong to hand off to me.

I thought that I was preparing myself for this run
by drinking lots of powerade and eating some
energy bars, but I obviously missed doing something right. I started off and didn't take too long to realize that I wasn't in the best condition.

I did fairly well keeping this lady in the purple top in "close" distance.

It was a great relief to have our support team waiting every little bit to hand off some much needed water, by way of cup or other.

I really felt the burn in the quads as I turned on to the road heading up to the dump. I set a goal on passing at least two other people.

I passed this guy and set my next target for this lady in a blue shirt.

The closer to the top the more relief I received from being sprayed down with the guns, but it sure was getting harder to keep the legs moving.

I did overtake my target of the lady in the blue shirt. It may have been within a few feet of the hand off zone, but I did it.

I was now able to help provide some cooling relief to other runners. It was quite warm and most to whom we offered to spray accepted.

Our leg 7 guy did great job coming down the hill.

Jean started to warm up for his portion of this wonderful event.

Here he is wondering why I asked him to run in this with us.

After getting just the right tune ready, his hand-off came up, and he strode off with his long stilts to catch up to some ladies in the black and pink for motivation to keep running.

We jumped ahead to offer him some water and found out that he can't handle water, even if he accepted it with a smile.

I ran with Jean for a little bit of his leg to give him some support for running with these insane Americans that think its fun to run in the mid-day sun, and to spray him down. He's not used to our hotter summer temps.

Jean did a great job, kept a good pace even though I could keep up to him that last little bit. He finished with some well deserved sweat and exhaustion.

Even part of our support team was able to enjoy the finish line activities.
My thanks and congratulations to those who ran/drove with me.
