Hawiian Party

Whitney's 5th birthday was on Friday. She woke up and put her hand on her head and said, "But I'm still the same size." I love that she expected to be noticeably different in size from one day to the next. I told her she would definitely notice a difference when she turned 10!

I tried to talk Whit into having just a party with us but she said that would be no fun. She wanted a Backyardigan's Volcano Sisters Party. In that episode Tasha and Uniqua are Volcano Goddesses and the boys are trying to find out what they want so they won't make the volcano explode. They give them the pearliest pearl and the tikiest tiki mask just to find out that they only wanted an invitation to the luau. Grandma made hula skirts and bikini tops for Whit's friends as party favors and she painted a flower and a dolphin on their faces. (Adee I don't know how you do parties without her!)
We made paper leis while we waited for erveryone to arrive.
Then we did the hula and played pin the pearl in the oyster, pass the tikki mask, and hot lava rocks. In the lava game the girls were supposed to walk across bubble wrap, aka hot rocks, without popping any bubbles. This game was a big hit. We topped it off with a volcano cake and ice cream. It was a great party. And according to Whitney was way better than just a party with her boring parents and little brother!
A few changes since last year. Whitney's new favorites:

Color: Yellow
Princess: Belle (Aurora sometimes because she has yellow hair)
Animal: Dolphin

Because of these new changes Tom and I gave her a dolphin necklace and dolphin book for her birthday. Thanks Jenica for shipping them straight from the dolphins to Whitney. She thought that it was so cool that the dolphins from Sea World sent her a present. She has worn the necklace every day since and has even slept in it. She wants to swim with the dolphins and wants to take a trip to Sea World.

Yes I did make the cake. I made it like the dress of a doll cake then decorated like a volcano. Thanks, I thought I was pretty clever too!
